Sea and Ocean freight refers to one particular method of shipping goods. This, as the name implies, includes all the goods transported by sea via shipping containers.
Ocean freight is not just a mode of transportation, is THE mode of transportations when it comes to ship goods across countries and continents.
Pros and Cons of Sea Freight
First of all, as said before, there is the price component. Sea freight is much cheaper than Air Freight or other express methods. It obviously offers greater capacity volumes allowing for single big shipments.
Sea freight also has less restrictions when it comes to measurements, weight, nature of the goods (flammable, chemicals, corrosive).
On top of that, Sea freight has a way lower CO2 emissions level compared to Air freight.
On the other hand, though, Sea freight also has some down sides.
Everyone knows or can at least imagine that big containers ships are slow. They are on average 30 times slower when compared to Air freight. Ships only move at a rate of 20-25 kmh. It can take up to a month for a container to get to some parts of the world after leaving, say, China.
Due to the less restrictions mentioned above, operations in Sea freight could be less smooth than Air freight. The technology level also differ when we compare the two, although ports and the whole Sea freight world are catching up to be able to compete with other modes of transport.
Our services include both type of container shipping:
Full Container Load (FCL) refers to goods transportation in sea containers where the whole container is fully filled with goods from one single shipper.
LCL, on the contrary, refers to those shipments that don’t fill an entire container and will have to be transported in a shared container with other goods from other shippers.
